Sport Media Major

pictures

The major prepares students for specialized careers in sport organizations that deal with managing information and communication systems critical to effective media and public relations. The curriculum consists of two sub-cores, respectively representing the sport sciences and communication. The sport sciences component provides a comprehensive exposure to all aspects of sport, including its historical and cultural orientations, economic and political foundations, as well as its psychological, social, and philosophical dimensions. In addition, students also receive a thorough grounding in speciality courses such as sports information, sports promotions, sport and the media, advertising, public relations, marketing, speech communications, computers, and writing. The program is one of the only programs in the country to award a bachelor of science in this specific subject area.

"Two of the best qualities the sport management major has to offer are individualism and opportunity. We have the ability to tailor our workload to meet our individual interests, as well as plenty of opportunities, through networks and faculty, to help us find the right path. An internship can put the three-plus years of college classes into perspective and help narrow your focus. Working at Threshold Sports took learning to an entirely different level. I benefited tremendously: by working with professionals in the world of cycling, I gained skills that cannot be taught in the classroom."
